For the third week this season, the Bolts run defense ranks atop the NFL’s standings. The Chargers are only giving up 79.4 yards per game on the ground, more than six yards less than the league’s second-ranked team, Carolina, which is surrendering 85.5 yards per contest.
The Chargers also ranked at the top of the rushing defense statistics following their bye week (Nov. 13) and the week after their game against Buffalo (Nov. 20)
This season, the Chargers have held two teams, Oakland (39) and Philadelphia (24), to less than 40 yards on the ground, and only two teams, Dallas (109) and Pittsburgh (104) have rushed for more than 100 yards. No individual player has rushed for more than 93 yards against the Bolts’ defense. The Chargers have held their last seven opponents to 484 total yards, an average of 69.1 rushing yards per game while going 6-1 during that stretch.
San Diego’s run defense is anchored by massive defensive tackle Jamal Williams, a first-alternate to the Pro Bowl last season. Williams leads the team with five tackles for loss and his 37 total tackles are the most on the team among defensive linemen.
Comments
Jamal Williams should go to the Pro Bowl. It will be a disgrace if he is overlooked, again this year.
This is a very cool blog!
