Bolts-Raiders Game Notes

Drew Brees threw two touchdown passes and LaDainian Tomlinson bounced back from an injury scare as the Chargers ran their winning streak to five games and brightened their playoff hopes with a 34-10 victory over the Raiders.

Game Notes

* Keenan McCardell caught an eight-yard pass on a third-and-six play just before the two-minute warning in the second quarter. It was his 800th career catch. On the play, he also moved past Harold Jackson and into 20th place on the NFL’s all-time receiving yardage list.

* Mike Scifres’ 71-yard punt in the first quarter was a career-long and it tied for the third-longest punt in team history. Maury Buford (Sept. 12, 1982 at Denver) and John Hadl (Nov. 8, 1964 at Denver) both had 71-yard punts. Scifres’ 71-yarder was the second-longest punt in team history at sea level. Paul Maguire, who was in the broadcast booth tonight as a color analyst for ESPN, hit the longest punt in team history at sea level, 82 yards against Dallas on Nov. 19, 1961.

* When the Chargers scored a touchdown at 11:14 of the second quarter off a turnover, it marked their sixth touchdown as the result of a turnover this season. It was the team’s fifth touchdown this season when starting a drive in their opponents’ end of the field.

* The Chargers had two 13-play touchdown drives tonight, tied for the team’s second-longest touchdown drives of the season…the third-quarter drive that consumed 7:32 was also the second-longest of the season.

* In the third quarter tonight, the Chargers outgained the Raiders in total yards, 129 to 2.

* Clinton Hart had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was his second touchdown following an interception of the season. The last player with two touchdowns on interception returns in a single season was Stanley Richard in 1994. On Hart’s first return this season at New England Oct. 2, Donnie Edwards intercepted the pass and pitched it to Hart, who took it in for the score.

* Marty Schottenheimer won his 25th career game against the Raiders tonight. He has more wins against them than any other coach in NFL history.

* Schottenheimer and assistant coach John Pagano have challenged eight plays this season, winning six of the eight challenges, including tonight’s second-quarter touchdown catch by Antonio Gates.

* The Chargers have won five straight over the Raiders, the most wins in a row since a six-game winning streak from 1960-62.

* In his past five games against the Raiders, Drew Brees is 5-0 and has thrown 10 touchdowns and no interceptions.

* The Chargers have now played 26 consecutive games, including playoffs, in which they have not lost by more than four points. It is tied with the 1982-83 Washington Redskins as the NFL’s third-longest streak. The record is 34 games, set by the Green Bay Packers from 1965-67.

* The Chargers reported the following injuries from tonight’s game: LaDainian Tomlinson (ribs) and Kassim Osgood (pectoral). Both players were injured in the first half. Tomlinson returned to the game, Osgood did not.

Clinton Hart played really good and force some key turnovers, why has he been given limited playing time this season, i think its about time he gets a starting role for the Chargers

KC opened the door for us, and were going to send LT through it at full speed. The division is ours if the Chargers win out. We may even be able to get a first round bye if Cinci loses again. San Diego looks to me like a Superbowl team.

When we play "Indie" we should "no-huddle" our defense so Peyton doesn't have an opportunity to audible at the line of scrimage...and get there earily enough to "road test" the turf to make the correct cleat selection.

GO CHARGERS!!!

It fells great to be a chargers fan.

I went to the game, and the stadium was louder than ever. Had a great time, especially with the Chargers winning easily. Because the Chiefs helped out the Chargers, San Diego has a good chance at the division title. We'll see by the New Year's Eve game at the Q against Denver.

Why hasn't Marty put Phillip Rivers in at the end of games? And, why has he left LT and Antonio in the game when we have a big lead?

Chargers will be Super Bowl-4. I hate John Kang's comment.

I had a dream that the 2005, San Diego Super Chargers are going to be the SuperBowl XL Champions!!! I know it too because they are a SuperBowl team and they will win the 2005 AFC West Division, 2005 AFC Championship, and the SuperBowl XL. I have pride in the chargers and all of their supporters. From first string to last string, they all play alike because they are a team, and this is why I have faith in them. Beating the raiders five consecutive times has proven that we are still the best. Go Chargers all the way baby!!!

From way back I can remeber only ONE CHARGER team that played as well as this team. Dan Fouts and company had a team in 1981 and this team is so much better. From a bolt fan in northern Nevada! KEEP THE FAITH ,GO BOLTS

I am very impressed with this team. The 1992 & 1994 Charger teams had great determination to win those close and come from behind games. This team will beat the Colts as the Colts wins are against a majority of losing teams or teams on a downhill slide. Defending AFC West Champs look like we will retain it and become AFC Champs & SB XL Champs.
Santa Fe New Mexico loves the BOLTS !!!

SD 4 Life
GO CHARGERS !!

yeah go chargers baby they rule and we are going to beat the colts baby!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calm down everybody. We got the Dolphins before we get Indie, and if we lose to the Dolphins then the whole season is destroyed. Like Marty says," One play at a time."

Miami always plays us tough. Chargers need to go in with the mind set of one play at a time, and Marty cannot be to conservative. There will be some BIG plays on Sunday. And, it will be JR Seau's first game back @ the Q!! We all know he will be recognized by the fans!! GO CHARGERS!!

While I'm picking San Diego in the pool this weekend, the Dolphins game scares me. If there were any game this season that could be the Chargers' trap game, this is it. Last week, the Raiders played well in the first half and gave up in the second. Miami is still in the playoff hunt and won't roll over like Oakland did. My prediction is San Diego 31, Miami 24.

I also like the Chargers' chances in pulling away from the Chiefs. Kansas City is not as dominant away from Arrowhead and Dallas will show up to play. And, I don't see anyone left on Denver's schedule that they would lose to before coming to San Diego on New Year's Eve.

Also, I'm anticipating a fairly close game in Jacksonville. If the Jags beat the Colts, Dungy and the Colts players will probably back off a bit against San Diego, having all but secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs (last two games are against weak teams) and no longer playing for an undefeated season.

Still, straight up, I like the Chargers' chances against the Colts. As long as they take care of the task at hand this weekend against Miami. Besides, winning out might be their only shot at the play-offs.

Now how big are those close losses to Dallas, Denver, Philly, and Pittsburgh?

Chargers will outcome the look over the Miami Dolipians. Tomlinson made a few percentage of curing that rib of his. He will be 100% strong on his way to victory to the championship!
Yeah! Bolt's all the way.
