Schottenheimer looks for win #187
Love him or hate him, head coach Marty Schottenheimer is a winner. With 186 career wins, Schottenheimer is the NFL's winningest active coach.
Schottenheimer is the NFL’s seventh-winningest coach. On Dec. 18, the Chargers defeated the 13-0 Indianapolis Colts to give him his 186th career regular-season win, tying him with Chuck Knox for seventh place on the NFL’s all-time wins list. Schottenheimer needs four more wins to move into a tie with former Broncos boss Dan Reeves (190) for sixth all-time. Marty’s .602 winning percentage is 15th-highest in NFL history among coaches with 100 or more wins.
In the process of beating the Colts, Schottenheimer and the Chargers won their ninth game of the season. Marty has now won nine or more games in 13 of his 19 full seasons as an NFL head coach. He is tied for the fourth-most winning seasons all-time among head coaches. A win on Saturday over the Broncos would give Schottenheimer the 11th 10-win season of his career.
Schottenheimer’s win over the Colts was a landmark victory. They were only the fourth team in NFL history and the first since Denver in 1998 to start a season 13-0.
Following another big victory this season, the Chargers’ overtime win in Washington against the Redskins on Nov. 27, Schottenheimer was named Coach of the Week by SportsIllustrated.com. It was the Chargers fourth game of the season against a team on the East Coast and the Bolts won three of the four games.

Marty's a great coach at a time when great coaches are tough to come by. I for one don't see a superbowl for the Charger's this decade WITHOUT Marty Schottenheimer.

I disagree with Tahir Jon and say, emphatically, that Marty Schottenheimer will win games but he is not a championship coach.
I don't wish to disparage Mr. Schottenheimer, but I make the statement that we will not win a championship with Marty.
I pose the question, if we had Mike Shanahan in San Diego as coach with the talent on this team, would we be a Super Bowl contending team? YES!
Marty, it is time to retire and enjoy the golden years of your hard labor.

Coach Schottenheimer has been a proven winner with every team he has been with...The man knows how to coach and win...I have followed his carrer with the Browns and the Chiefs, and now the Chargers...Ask the Chiefs and Browns fans if they would rather be playoff bound almost every year with Coach Marty, or in the mire they have been in without him?...I know what I'd choose...He gets the most from the least, which may explain his poor playoff record...The Chargers are in a position to change his post season record in the next few years (top notch talent)...

Marty schottenheimer is a good coach but a championship coach no.He has had many really good football teams but has never gotten it done. San Diego will be no diffrent. Close games that are lost by that few of points is clearly a coaching error. thank you marty but it is time to go.

If you can lure Jimmy Johnson to San Diego for next season I say go for it. If no, give Marty one more season.

A good coach will get his team in the playoffs. Its up to the players from there. Coach Marty is not on the field and if you look at how he lost his playoff games over the last 2 decades, you'll see you can't blame him for his players mistakes.

Jimmy Johnson will never coach again. He stated that enough times, he is enjoying retirement.
As for T.O, A.J. Smith will never want anyone like him or Randy Moss. Ever. The Chargers are good at WR, we need DB's.
I have had enough of Jammer's mistakes and of the play of the safties. Last year they blammed the pass rush, before that it was a new system, what's their excuse this year?

Marty is a solid coach. The Chargers were in games all season and unfortunately the players didn't make plays when they had to make plays. We were a couple of plays away from being 12 and 4 but the players either dropped a key pass, dropped an interception right in their hands, a safety bit on an underneath route and gets burned over the top or we miss a simple block on a field goal. Look at all those passes that went through one of our receiver's hands and then into the hands of a defender. Those turnovers were huge. What about Sproles (a solid player)fumbling when we runs into his own blocker against Miami. The players play well but need to be more consistent week to week. It's just like Marty has said in the past, games come down to a few key plays and Champions find a way to make plays and win.

Marty is a good coach, but we need a better coach to take this team to the next level. We have a great team and it's not being utilized to its potential. I've seen too many questionable coaching decisions under Marty that I know will not get this team to the championship level team that it is.

To all that doubt marty don't be so ignorant stop watch what is going. Research the teams he has had in the past and if you do that you would find that this Chargers team is by far the best he has ever had . My point is that you don't drive a pinto all your life hit the lottery and buy a porche and think you can drive the damn thing give Marty a chance he is adjusting to what his team does best he is learning to drive this talented football team so relax all you Marty pundits

Marty is a good coach. We have an excellent coaching staff. Don't blame him for the few boneheaded plays that prevented this team from making the playoffs.

I'm about championships and my research tells me Marty has zero.
