The Aussie is back

No, not with the Chargers. Former long time Bolts Punter Darren Bennett was called up by the Minnesota Viking to punt while their starting Punter Chris Kluwe rehabs from a knee injury. Recently I was asking a coworker in the office whatever happened to Darren? After being released from the Chargers, Bennett signed with the Vikings and played one season, then released during training camp this year and he returned to his home in San Diego. Ironically a meeting was scheduled this week with his accountant to discuss filing retirement papers with the NFL. On the brink of signing retirement papers the Vikings called and Bennett was on a plane to Minnesota and is playing today.

Chargers punter Mike Scifres was an apprentice to Bennett in 2003. Scifres credits much of his success to techniques the unselfish Bennett showed him.

Bennett left the Chargers with many great memories. I’m happy to see him play again.
