Brees to have surgery

breesholdingarm.jpgQuarterback Drew Brees announced that the injury sustained in the season finale will require surgery. Brees described the injury as a torn labrum, but added he will get a second opinion before he has surgery. According to MedTerms.com the labrum is basically a ring of soft fibrous tissue located at the end of the shoulder blade and helps stabilize the shoulder joint.

Brees said it will take him at least four months to recover and rehab from the surgery.

The San Diego Chargers issued the following statement, “Drew Brees had an MRI on Sunday that revealed he has a tear of the labrum in his right shoulder. Following a second consultation this week, Drew is expected to have surgery as soon as possible to expedite his rehabilitation to full recovery. The full extent of the injury and the expected length of the recovery period will not be known until after the surgery

I thought that arm was twisted ugly, I hope the surgery goes well for him, I'm a falcon fan, but I hate seeing injuries in football.

Well, this hadn't what I hoped for.

Anyhow, it will make this offseason even more the intresting, and hopefully Bress will be able to come back at pre-injurey strenth at 110%.

Here is to 06'. Go Bolts.

When I saw the replay, i was like, he's done. I feel he can make it back to his form, but AJ and Marty need to decide if to keep Rivers or trade him, or cut Brees and start Rivers next year. If rivers were named the starter, the schedule shouldn't be too tough for him. The long term deal is going to be very difficult to negotiate now, but I would just keep both of them and see how effective Drew is at training camp. i really Drew and i hope he doesn't leave beacuase he's a Texas boy as i am and the chemistry is good right now. Rivers is a good guy also, but the meshing this team has had the past two years, it's been great. Keep this team together.

unfortunatley a torn labrum is extremely difficult to come back from. most guys dont. I hope he can

This is the last thing that San Diego needed. I hope the Chargers step up and sign Brees to the long term deal that he deserves. He is the heart of this team and definitely our quarterback. Hopefully Brees will rehab strong and come back better than ever.

It'll be interesting to see how the chargers handle phillip Rivers during the off season. I believe they had plans to shop him. This may cause A.J. to wait and see how Drew responds to his rehab. I would have liked to see the chargers deal rivers and get some secondary help or some added depth to our O line.

Drew has proven to me that he should remain the Charger QB now and in the future. When the writing was on the wall that team leadership appeared to lose confidence in him and was looking to go in another direction when they drafted Rivers, his character and tenacity prevailed. He is a true leader and an outstanding role model. My son ,who is a QB in high school, patterns himself after Drew. I couldn't be prouder. Best wishes to Drew for a speedy recovery and continued success as the CHARGER QB.

Most QB don't come back to 100% Throwing power with an injury like that. Let's hope he does but I think the Rivers Era has begun.

What a fitting end to our season. Get well Drew, we need you back. Here's to a better 2006!

Well, thats going to calm the quaterback issue for a while. I think Phillip Rivers is going to have a full season next year if he really takes advantage of this missfortune. Hopefully will see him at his fullest and all this can settle down.

Now this really complicates things. I wonder what AJ will do now. I was hoping to make a trade with one of our QB's to bring in some Oline help or a safety. Now we have a inexperienced QB and another that is damaged goods.
Hope it all works out. I will keep the faith.
Go bolts!

Drew Brees torn labrum is going to be a big downfall this offseason. Not just because he has to get surgery on it, but also because it keeps us wondering, "are we going to trade rivers or brees?" and if brees doesnt return at full strength, then "what is the best thing to do with him?". The last thing we needed this offseason was a even bigger quaterback controversy. Anyhow, this is the last thing that the chargers wanted going into the offseason. Lets just hope he can come back to full strength and continue leading a fantastic team in '06.

Drew will come back bigger than before, which is saying something. Keep Rivers and draft the fastest wide reciever we can. The O-line will suddenly seem better with a reciever that can stretch the field. Otherwise we can watch more QB injuries.

I am sorry to hear the bad news. I wish him the best and I hope he does not loose that 25% arm strength that he gained this year.

Look at Drew Brees and how he composes himself during interviews. He is the face of organization, always optimistic, looking to improve, and a true team player. Drew, where ever you go in your NFL career, I will follow. I wish you only the best. Good luck with the surgery.

Sure hope Brees surgery goes well and he re-habs back to normal. As much as I wanted to trade Rivers for help in those areas where we are weak, the team can't do anything for six months.

Bad news for what I think was a cheap shot on Brees, Legal but cheap bad way to go out. Thought the game was over who has the ball not taking a free shot on the QB going for the ball.If he is done the chargers should look to even the score next year. Gerard Warren public enemy #1 Good luck Drew hope you can come back from this.

drew will have the surgery and be back at full form by the first mini camp.as far the chargers keeping him or not.they would be foolish to do anything he went to the pro bowl last year.and had a career best year this year.rivers was very good in college but is unproven in the nfl.gods speed drew get the shoulder fixed and keep that winning attitude. get back to leading this team we have faith in you.

I'm sooooo friggin upset. I can't believe this! Especially after the 25% arm strength INCREASE and there's a chance that it could be all for not. He's worked soooo hard to get his arm strength to the point of a Marino or Palmer and now he gets hurt. We are all hoping for super speedy recover Drew WE LOVE YOU!

For all of those naysayers and skeptics who doubt Drew Brees returning to form in '06, just remember what happened when the team lost faith in Drew and drafted a man named Philip to replace him. I believe that this injury will only serve as motivation for Drew to return healthier and stronger than ever and he will lead San Diego back to the playoffs where they belong.

I wish Drew Bress a speedy recovery and all the best. It will be interesting to see if this will effect AJ's decisions on whether to keep Brees. Questions that arise in my mind are:
1. Brees already has a bit of a weak arm will this injury make it even weaker?
2. Is Phillip Rivers the Chargers future?
there are many more but these keep reeling in my mind. AJ has a tough decision ahead of him. Drew is a tough and very positive guy. I wish him the best.

At least the cheap shot was in the last game of the season, where the game didn't matter.... giving Brees the entire offseason to rehab. I think they need to keep both Brees and Rivers, and let them "fight it out" in camp to see who starts and to see if Brees' arm is up to snuff. He would still make a good 2nd QB if Rivers gets the nod.

Hey breeezyboy I heard that if he can fully recover that he will gain 43% more arm strength. When I heard that I was so Happy! Lets all hope Drew Brees the Best!

This Brees deal definitely gives management motivation to look at Rivers a little closer. Hopefully Brees doesnt' have the same problems Chad Pennington has had recovering from his injury. He hasn't been the same since.
