Chargers hold 19th pick in '06 Draft
As a result of the strength of their 2005 opponents, the Chargers will pick 19th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft, but fourth among the four teams that all finished 9-7, Miami (.457), Minnesota (.484) and Dallas (.523) will all choose ahead of the Chargers.
Draft-order ties are resolved by the cumulative record of each team’s opponents. The team with the weaker opponents receives drafting priority.

why does miami and dallas get to pick ahead of the chargers? they lost to both head to head.
sam (January 2, 2006 3:36 PM)
This year is going to be a defensive draft other than reggie bush and Matt Leinart i think this is a good opportunity to start adressing the problems in the secondary they are a few good corners in this draft
Nate (January 2, 2006 3:45 PM)
umm dude we need to go for the O-line problem b4 we hit the secondary the DB's actually r all pretty good they just get passed on so much because r run defense is crazy good i think we need to give brees more time and leander jordan is not doing his job
Nick (January 2, 2006 4:09 PM)
Agree they need to complement the linebacking core with depth in secondary but I would add more offence of line depth too.
Sean (January 2, 2006 4:32 PM)
Looking back on 2005, the Chargers were only two or three key positions away from a 14-2 season.
We need a strong Left Tackle and one special teams player (to keep the opponents out of such great field position following kickoffs.)
Use the first round for a Left Tackle.
Second Round for a Defensive Secondary player that can double on Special Teams kickoff coverage.
Third Round: A Left or Right Guard.
After that the Chargers are in good shape to use later rounds simply to have depth behind their already strong starters at most/all positions.
2006: Chargers 12-4 AFC West Champs
Joe (January 2, 2006 5:08 PM)
miami and dallas also finished 9-7 but the chargers had a tougher schedule they are considered a better team.
mario alfonso (January 2, 2006 5:16 PM)
All 6 OT's in this years Pro Bowl were 1st rd picks, so we need one in the first round. It's such a deep year at the tackle spot we should have a nice selection at #19. In the 2nd rd we need to pick up Bernard Pollard a strong safety from Purdue. He's blocked 6 kicks in his career, and his nickname is Bone Crusher. I think we used to have a safety once who used to really scare recievers???? We also need some more talent on the ol not just lunch pail types. We need another 300 pounder on dl(can't have enough of them), special teams guy(Chris Reis ga. tech) and a waterbug reciever/return man(Vincent Marshal Houston or Sklyer Green LSU).
Stu (January 2, 2006 5:53 PM)
I want Darnell Bing we need to get that Secondary in Shape or a strong Offensive Lineman to give LT some more 100-150 Yard games
Anthony (January 2, 2006 7:02 PM)
The argument that the DB are giving up the big play because the D line is so awesome doesn't fly. A 3-4 Defense only works with an elite D line and effective coverage schemes - both are in place. DB execution, knowing the ball is coming, remains the problem.
Herr Bolt (January 2, 2006 7:04 PM)
How about drafting someone who knows how to wrap up an opponent returning kicks. Field position is a key to winning football games and when you allow the opponent's offense to play on a field half the size that you do, it makes winning awfully difficult!
Dan B. (January 2, 2006 7:12 PM)
At #19,the Bolts should improve the OL-obviously!Agree,the secondary continues to get better(Had to,could`nt get much worse!)and a strong safety could also be had in the draft.Just keep beating the HATED Raiders, and everything else will take care of itself!Division Champs-attainable goal-lets win the SUPERBOWL in 2006!!!!!
Dave (January 2, 2006 8:02 PM)
Well now, this may prove to be a rather interesting draft indeed. Number nineteen overall may not seem like it's very high, but hey, Terrel Davis was picked in the sixth round. The Bolts should really use all the attention that the Bush Bowl got to find some hidden talent to improve their...well...not quite top tier secondary. Someone who will bring in a dependable game each week like Merriman would do wonders for the defense. We're already good, it's just that burst of energy for the pass D to bring the boys to the playoffs.
Concertattire (January 2, 2006 9:14 PM)
hey guys we need to fix are pass d first we were the number one team at stoping the run but we could not stop any type of pass jammer and davis get beat to often we should and rose bowl and take a look and usc bing and texas huff after that work on oline cause leander jordan can't block a 5 year old
Jeff l (January 2, 2006 10:19 PM)
We really, really need to secure Drew's blindside. Jordan is inconsistent and Oben is getting old. We need a bright kid from the first round in that posistion if not, the vets need to step up. Seeing how the line played this year helped solidify my stance on being upset with not showing Hudson Houck the money. He can work with any O-line especially our patchwork line last year. Remember, he was the guy who coached that Miami line that stopped our boys from sacking this year. We need a smart, strong and fast veteran in at safety. But seriously...the bolts are going to playoffs next year and end of story. Get well Drew!!!
michael BOLTon (January 2, 2006 10:24 PM)
1) O-Line/Left Tackle
This year there is nothing in Free Agency outside of
Hutchinson, which would be Awesome!
I say First Two Picks go to O-Line.
2) D-Backs We need Veteran Leadership. Spend in Free Agency. Possibly Clement from Bills, who will be available.
3) WR Moulds would be nice pick-up in FA.
4) ILB Draft in 3rd. Round
5) DT Find a Big Back Up for Jamal should be priority.
Maui Bolt (January 2, 2006 10:35 PM)
You're all going to think I'm crazy but I say Hester from Miami FL. Sure we got Sproles but Hester can also play WR, and McCardell isn't getting any younger.
Jarhead (January 2, 2006 10:55 PM)
i'm pretty sick of watching kaeding kick the ball to the 15 on kickoffs. i watch college games all the time where the kicker consistently bangs the ball out of the end zone but can't make a 35-yard field goal! how about picking up one of them with a 7th rounder?
seth (January 3, 2006 12:06 AM)
The chargers biggest draft need is solid O-line run blockers. The current line often makes Tomlinson look very average.
mike g. (January 3, 2006 12:12 AM)
Don't forget that we have Feely at QB. He has more experience than Rivers. They may trade for the Bush pick, as defenses can't scheme covering LT, Bush, Gates and McCardell all at the same time. A.J. Will pick up overlooked players for the OL in later rounds, as well as a QB in the mid rounds to compete for the third QB spot. The reason the got Vincent Jackson is because he can block well on sweeps and leap for the ball. He will make Caldwell trade bait. Now if we could only get Hudson back from Miami....
Superstan19 (January 3, 2006 1:06 AM)
I think we seriously need to resolve the problem with the lack of INT's. Nearly every game had a play "nearly intercepted by the Chargers" and if we could of held onto some of them we wouldnt have to march 70+ yards when we get the ball back by conventional means!
Great D against the ground, poor against the pass!
Tom Oliver (January 3, 2006 3:44 AM)
Regardless of how stout our run defense is our secondary has been lathargic. Carolina and Tampa Bay both were examples of teams that finished in top 10 in Rushing D and Passing D. I am sick of hearing all the excuses by our secondary about why they are the worst in the league. I am sick of it, I say get a CB in the first round. Davis and Jammer have been major disappointments.
In the Second Rnd we should get a Guard. Oben will be back for the LT spot.
Shane (January 3, 2006 6:57 AM)
# 1 priority hard hitting safety to help the corners like a Rodney Harrison.
# 2 priority Offensive line..
# 3 Wide receiver speed to stretch the field
use free agency wisely and draft well and we'll see ya in the playoffs in 06
Chris (January 3, 2006 7:18 AM)
I like this year, we need at lest 3 o-line men 2 run blocking and 1 pass or get 3 balanced. and we need a safty another WR would not hurt or get a gates type TE would all be good
alex (January 3, 2006 8:22 AM)
Jordan almost got Brees killed singlehandedly. We need experienced O-Line help in a major way. We are not going to get it from the draft. We need to sign a pro bowl caliber free agent as our first priority.
jim burkhardt (January 3, 2006 8:30 AM)
i think we need a high caliber wr if not then a free safety or corner back. we are good not great in both positions.
jason v (January 3, 2006 8:49 AM)
o-line has to be the priority. best left-tackle, D'brickashaw Ferguson, will go in the top five, why not trade bait Rivers to any of the qb hungry teams with top-five picks (Saints, Jets, Titans, Raiders) and get the pick in return to take him)! We can always try to sign a proven safety, we have the cap room.
Brian (January 3, 2006 9:46 AM)
LT is a huge concern, in week 17 jordan stood around blocking no one the two fumbles Brees had, one of those leading to his injury. i think a ballhawk type FS would be perfect because Kiel actually does quite well in run support but jue and wilson in coverage were mediocre at best, if the top 4 LT's(winston, ferguson, justice and Mcneil) are all gone by our pick id like to see us get D'qwell jackson out of maryland, he played ILB with merriman in college and theres no telling when godfrey will call it quits. only other thing id like them to do would be to get a CB like jennings out of Miami or jimmy williams out of V tech, both r very good tacklers and jennings is a ballhawk...plus hes from the U, and how many of them are bad
Andrew (January 3, 2006 9:54 AM)
I think we can all agree that the secondary and o-line are lacking the tallent needed to make it to the next level.
If you step back and look at the line it really isn't all that bad. The right side is pretty solid but where I beleave it needs improvement is on the left side (LT, LG). Diealman hasn't played on the o-line for that long and needs a little more streangth and skill. Oben has good technique but is too slow for speed rushers.
As far as the secondary goes, we should not waste anymore picks or money on unproven players who aren't really gonna help us back there for a few years. It would be well worth it to trade a second rounder for a proven CB.
Draft:
1st (Left Takle)
2nd (trade for veteran CB)
3rd (Left Guard)
4th (D-Line depth)
5th (O-line depth)
6th (special teams)
7th (special teams because yes the coverage was that bad)
anthony v (January 3, 2006 9:59 AM)
I concur with exactly what Nick said at the top of this post. Jordan is crap and the secondary improved 100% the last half of the season especially with having the number 1 rush D in the NFL. No we don't have the Bengals secondary but they are not the reason we are losing games. It is mostly the O-Line...Pass and Rush Blocking are garbage. I am amazed that L.T. broke 1400 with no one but Lorenzo blocking for him. Yet even with a improved O-Line we will still be an average team because the entire team is inconsistant...plain and simple. I am as big a Charger fan as just about anyone here but you have to try to be unbiased when judging how good this team is. Wild Card next year...maybe. Superbowl in 2007? You're just setting yourself up for a disappointment.
RANCID (January 3, 2006 11:07 AM)
Smith has done a great job so far, and this draft will put us over the top. Having said that, Anthony V has it the closest. The only difference being what we can get via free agency OL or Secondary. And in the middle rounds we go for a Receiver. I don't think you draft specifically for Special Teams, they will be better with another draft and another coach. And yes, we will be in the playoffs, just how far will we go ...
pete (January 3, 2006 11:45 AM)
Clearly, the number one priority for this team is the left side of the O-line. The Bolts' 2005 season went south as soon as LT Roman Oben got hurt (losses at home to Miami and Denver?!?)...you can never have enough depth on the O-line. But there's another hole...we need to replace Nick, "Holding, #61 Offense," Hardwick, with a center who doesn't get "tanked" every other play. And I have to agree with guys like "Anthony V." that if the Chargers are going to get help in the defensive backfield, it'll be through a trade, not the draft. Here's my call: Send Rivers and our #1 and #2 picks to Baltimore for Ed Reed and Baltimore's #1. Maybe not the best deal for them, but who cares about the Ravens anyway??
Daron (January 3, 2006 12:33 PM)
With 1st round pick we should try to trade up with another pick so we can get that tackle from Virginia TECH. We should trade rivers and our 2nd round pick to the ravens for ED REED who they will never give up by the way but you never know or another game changing safety. We should also sign a free agent corner like NATE CLEMENTS. this might sound crazy but when we have pressure on the corner back quintin jammer is amazing. he really is. he might be struggling a little but we know that he is improving but still when there is pressure on the QB he is unbelievable. I KNOW I WANT TO SAY THIS I WANT T.O. ON THE CHARGERS BUT I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE RISK WE CAN AFFORD HIM. Imagine what our offense could do.
B RAD (January 3, 2006 12:50 PM)
By the way, Yeah, I also have thoughts of bringing T.O. to the cargers, perfect fit (as a player), but we should offer him a contract for the minimum salary and a HUGE INCENTIVES PLAN, that way we can have him under a leash everytime. Salary starts at 550,000.And then we add:If no locker room brawls=750,000, 10+TDs=1M, etc, something like that, you get it! :)
John from Tijuana (January 3, 2006 2:22 PM)
We have a couple positions i consider high priories. Everyone knows we need secondary help. I think thats more of a free agent market fix for us. I like picking up ty law or clement. We need to see what Rivers marketability is also. We can either get a 1st for him or a solid player. Safety is also a concern for me. We need to get a force in the deep middle. With our front 7 there is no way we should be getting burned. Also im concerned about our offense. We got shut down at points this season and we could strongly benifit from solid lineman. Also we need a new receiver to help us out. I know there has got to be someone besides TO that we can pickup that can help us. I say O-line in 1st round and either safety or linebacker in 2nd. I was watching Ohio states linebackers and they are solid prospects that we should look at.
brian johnson (January 3, 2006 2:57 PM)
I think in the first round an offensive lineman would help but if we just get back Oben at left tackle we should be fine. Trading rivers for a high draft pick would be smart if we could pick up a big time db or even a receiver on the opposite side of McCardell
chad gruwell (January 3, 2006 3:33 PM)
O-line should be first priority, but I don't agree that we need to draft a high first rounder for the line. You can find quality linemen in later rounds. I don't think we need to bring in another CB unless a great opportunity presents itself. There really needs to be better play from safety and the line. Right now, the cornerbacks are being asked to do too much. If you have a hard-hitting safety staying back there, it takes pressure of the corners. The biggest change is somewhere above the players. I don't know if a new head coach is the need, but something is missing. The players are inconsistent, lacked focus in many games (not just the losses), and couldn't finish games (and the season). People can say that players are professionals and shouldn't need a coach to get them focused, but then why do you need good coaches to succeed?
Brad (January 3, 2006 4:19 PM)
i agree we need a hard hitting safty and a left tackle but we really need to teach our corners how to catch a football and maybe have Sproles run more on the outsides so he can use his cutting style rather then up the middle only to get knocked down.
A coach who's not afraid to go on 4th and inches in the red zone would be nice too.
david (January 3, 2006 4:49 PM)
Finally, so Bolts fans that recognize the problems with the secondary and O-Line. Hate to say it but Jammer is horrible, he couldn't cover his shadow if it didn't belong to him. We need a strong secondary pick-up, Reed would do that but it would be expensive in both ways. The O-Line is broken but I have a feeling will get fixed by one of the young guys who will shine this year. What we need is a Big down field threat. T.O. in the powder blues, base salary with incentives, especially for GOOD BEHAVIOR!! Man, imagine the possibilities.

Look, Marty thought the answer to the poor pass D was drafting pass rushers. Good, but what about games like Miami, Wash.,Denver, and Philly when our pass rush was non-existent. Priority #1,we need coverage. I like Ed Reed from Balt., and he's a free agent. If Balt. tries to franchise him, then trade Rivers or Brees(either or I don't care) to get him. In the draft we can go for a Left Tackle, and a corner in the later rounds. This team is not that far, but w/o a true cover corner, or a safety... well we all saw this years fiasco.
Mike D. (January 3, 2006 5:25 PM)
Ravens will never trade for reed. but what we do need is a Safety. Darnell Bing from USC has big play potential and can wack a receiver coming into the middle. We also need a LT for LT he had to use every juke in the book to get those 1400 yards. We need a nasty OL that is just mean and will get up in your face
Gerry (January 3, 2006 5:28 PM)

I agree with the first 2. The problem with #3 is that (some may not like this) Drew CANNOT stretch the field! His arm (pre-injury) was average at best. If he could throw 40 yards downfield consistently, teams wouldn't crowd the box, thereby giving LT a better chance.
Vincent Jackson has speed, can stretch the field and showed he can hold on to a ball. I say get the "intimidating" Safety like Ed Reed (I wish) and fix up that O-Line. Lastly, give Rivers a chance. He looked shaky (lack of snaps) but at least he threw tight spirals at the numbers. Unlike the other guy who regularly threw a "duck" and made almost every receiver jump 15 feet in the air and vulnerable to a serious hit (see Parker and LT).
Vincent Jackson will come in to his own and Eric Parker is Mr. Reliable (see the Patriots).

All, face the truth, Drew is not the future, he's so bad and too short what you see in him is his best and he won't get any better cause of his injury, he's a welterweight trying to be a heavyweight. We need a Fouts, Humphries, S.Young, Elway, Aikman, Farve, Marino, Palmer, Brady, Rothlisberger, P. Manning. Fix the secondary, OL and special teams kickoffs out of the end zones and
Sproules hasn't done anything. A yes in Reed from Baltimore.
Boltz Nobles' (January 3, 2006 6:52 PM)
What about a kicker? at least for kickoffs, im not saying go first 3 rounds looking for one, but maybe 4th becuase i dont think kaeding has kicked it into the endzone in his career as a charger on kickoffs
Matt (January 3, 2006 7:13 PM)
Draft Priorities:
1) Strong Safety - An impact Strong Safety will upgrade the secondary tremendously. They gave up too many 3rd-n-longs last year. Also need an experienced secondary coach to work with the pass rush.
2) Left Tackle - So many blind side sacks forcing a fumble is what killed us! You can get a quality OT in the second round.
3) Wide Receiver - If VJ gets a chance to play we should be ok but Eric Parker is too fragile. We need a go2 guy and McCardell isn't getting younger.
4) Inside Linebacker - Need youth.
If we solve these areas we should win all the close ones and maybe dominate a few games. I expect A.J. to be busy in the off-season to bring in some proven players like an upgrade in the secondary. Getting a cornerback from the draft has always been hit-n-miss (mostly miss).
JT (January 3, 2006 8:08 PM)
The 19th spot is perfect for a O lineman, we've signed Oben longterm I believe so Jordan will go away. Trying to help the secondary with a draft pick doesnt work, our past drafts have shown that, the disparity in talent and coverage between college and the pros is much greater in the secondary than along the lines so we fill the line with picks and the secondary with a veteran guy that we can get through a Rivers trade. - The people that don't believe that Brees can cut it confuse me. The guy gets it done and with time keeps making better and better decisions... or we could risk the next 3 years on a guy with two games playing experience. I'd rather trade Rivers cause he has huge value (rated above Leinhart) and stick with Brees; cause anyone who has the fitness and composure to have a standing heart rate of 36 before there first start as a rookie clearly is prepared for whats ahead of him.
Robert Maiorano (January 3, 2006 8:40 PM)
Mookster got it right. It's not "Bad" that Drew can't throw hard. All we have to do is build properly around what we got. We need Run Blocking MONSTERS.
19th overall - Oline Talent
2nd round - Safety
3rd round - Oline Size/power
4th round - SSafety/ILB best play
5th Kicker - for distance
6th QB
6th Oline
7th Roll up
7th Trade
Hire Good vets for back up CB/WR

The ravens don't have to trade ed reed. He is a free agent. He has ties with our general manager. I think that we have the money and we have the kind of team where he will like it in san diego.I think we need to get o line help and maybe a quarterback so we can trade phillip rivers. I like dj shockley who will probably go in the third or fourth round. But we need ed reed!
Kamy (January 3, 2006 10:25 PM)
We need an intimidating safety (Darnell Bing) and more o-lineman. If I see one more unmolested backside sack resulting in a late turnover I'm going to freak out! I vote for a new o-line coach. Carl Mauck is not a tactician. The difference between this year and last IS the play of the O-line. I see 12-4 next year and an AFC championship. Go BOLTS and Godspeed to Breeser!
Scott (January 3, 2006 10:31 PM)
We need to try to get Michael Huff of Texas in this years draft. Yes, we do get thrown on a lot. But, our top three cornerbacks combined for 2 interceptions this season, one by Florence, who fumbled and lost the ball while running it back, and Jammer's came at a meaningless time at the end of the Indy game. We need a playmaker in the secondary.
John (January 4, 2006 12:28 AM)
we need to work on our oline its to easy for the opponents to bust through and stop LT or sack DB the QB needs more time in the pocket.
john (January 4, 2006 8:28 AM)
The Chargers could easily have been 15-1, so there aren't too many weak spots, defensive backs were a concern at times, especially late in games. I actually felt that the chargers got pass happy at times they should have been LT happy. They need to trade for McCallister or sign Woodson of the Raiders. Use our Draft pick for an Offensive linemen.
Luis (January 4, 2006 10:07 AM)
We should pick up Moulds and Nate Clemens to address those problems. There is no point in drafting another DB in the top two rounds when we already have 4 that have been so so at best. I think OL is the best place to look.
Joe (January 4, 2006 10:18 AM)
they need to get some free agents that are release are looking to be signed. They still should get help defensives and hepl on the offensive of line this will probably be the best offseason if they do what the suppose to do.
Jamall (January 4, 2006 12:09 PM)
Did any of you watch the games. We need some corner backs. We were terrible at stopping the pass. Jammer must of had a pass interference every game.
Gerald (January 4, 2006 12:56 PM)
The risk in obtaining T.O. would be small and the up-side would be great. Think of it = LT GATES and T.O.
SD may be the right type of town to accept T.O. and he's not a bad person, players respect him.

This years draft is KEY, I would REALLY like to see AJ use the FIRST pick to get someone like Landry from LSU a STANDOUT Safety...The Bolts Front 7 is lookin' stellar, NOW lets get the Seondary going with a "merriman" like playmaker back there...and then fill holes on O-line so L.T. can get that 2000 yard season...Go Bolts!!!

Kevin (January 4, 2006 2:01 PM)
I totally believe that we need a new secondary. Look at the Indy game. The only reason they made is a close game was because of poor coverage in the secondary. Ed Reed would be the ultimate choice for free agency. Oben should be back for next year but they need to pick up some backups just in case. I say trade rivers for Ed Reed and let Drew Brees handle his business. Get Well DREW!!!
Josh (January 4, 2006 2:07 PM)
Trade Jammer, this years 1st and next years 1st to Houston for the #1 and select Reggie Bush.

Why are all of you only talking about the secondary and O.Line?? We should consider picking up a receiver in the 2nd or 3rd round too. Keenan McCardell is getting old and is a little slow for our #1 WR spot. Eric Parker is great too, but I just can't see him as our long term #1. He is most successful as a complement to his partner. We need to get a tall, quick youngster that can be our future go-to guy.

Ed Reed, forget about it, Baltimore is franchising him and that is that! Forget about trading one of the QB's because of Brees' injury. We need an offensive lineman in the first round and we might be able to pick up Ty Law in free agency, the safety out of LSU would not be a bad first round pick up either.
Cam Cameron please get the job with the Texans because his play calling is way to predictable, hello Norv Turner!!!

Getting Reed would be awesome. Everyone says Brees can't get the ball down field. I've seen him get the ball down field when it's called. The problem is that those types of plays take too long to develop. Teams crowd the box because they want to stop LT. My guess is that Drew will come back stronger because he's the type that will work harder than most to get the strength in his shoulder back, which will probably lead to him being able to throw the ball further anyway. But I'll take a QB that can lead the team and throw accurately over a QB that can throw deep. People assume the injury will keep AJ from trading Rivers. My take is that if a team wants Rivers, now they will assume they have to give up more to get him because of the injury to Brees. And I'd be just fine with pulling the trigger on the right deal.

I dont think Ed Reed is a free agent. I think he wants a new contract.
B RAD (January 4, 2006 4:25 PM)
i think most of you have it right with ol and secondary help.reed would be awesome but it might cost to much if they franchise him.it makes me feel good to see most would trade rivers, brees has been one of the top qb last 2 years, but why is no one calling for martys head!he might have alot of wins but what has he ever done in the playoffs?we need a coach to take us to the next level and marty is not it!a.j. will get the guys we need.our prays should go to brees who has proven he has what it takes.
Eddie (January 4, 2006 6:45 PM)
I agree with the need for a tackle, i think we should be able to get a decent reciever in round 2 or 3.

Jammer is a good CB, he's just had a hard time adjusting to the new rules. The # of interceptions is not the only stat you look at to determine a good corner. If they found a way to get Woodson on the other side, that would be incredible, but not likely to happen since he would want too much money. If you bring in a solid safety, that would make a huge difference. You also have to consider that there's a possibility Wade Phillips could leave for another job. If that happens, it sets the whole defense back. As far as Drew, the "short" thing is getting old. He's a good QB that knows how to lead a team. That's what you want on your team. This injury shouldn't set him back, and it actually may make him stronger because he'll work even harder to prove it didn't hurt him. Stick with Drew, get some o-line help, safety, and a WR (tall, fast, etc.).

first pick if their still there Jonathan Scott from Texas 6-7 310 balanced blocker, Max Gilles from Georgia 6-4 340 good run blocker, Ryan 0'callaghan from California 6-7 360 great run blocker this guy hopefully will be around in the 2nd round or 3nd saftey Laron Landry from LSU runs a 4.48 6'2 187 a ball hawk, i know Eric Winston will be pick early but if not hes from Miami
6-7 310 5.10 dash very smart blocker.

I think Jamer has the toughest Job in Football. Marty knoews he is fine.
Bob Hunter (January 6, 2006 11:55 AM)
Okay,
Here it is fellas!
Offensive Line - FA (1 OT)
Secondary - FA (1 CB)
Receivers - FA (1 WR)
Names?
S. Hutchinson
E. Reed
T. Owens (Well defined contract...behavior driven)
Will these players be available? Who knows!
But with players of this quality, the Chargers will be immediate SuperBowl favorites. Especially with TO. He strecthes the field...but can Brees/Rivers get him the ball in stride. A lot of Brees' passes are thrown behind the receiver. Too many of those and TO will say something...and it won't be nice!

after watching the national championship i realized how good Vince Young could be in the NFL. Even better how good he would look in a charger uniform. I am still in the air on what we should do with this draft. We dont need bush, we got LT who the man. We do need secondary help but last years draft produced 2 very good corners and they got burned all year while learning the speed of NFL. We need to develope a win now attitude. We need secondary help and with al the money we have to spend we need to address it in F.A. We need a solid wideout to compliment our explosive offense and make it even more deadly. That is F.A. pickup. For this draft we have only one good option, trade up. If Vince is in it we need to trade rivers for a 1st and string 2 firsts and a couple late rounders to pick him up, if not string together a little less to move up to get that linebacker from Ohio state. This is a summary of how i would draft
1st round Voung/LB
2nd round Trade for vet/Nose gaurd
3rd round OL

Vince Young looked real good the other night. He also looked real good last year in the Rose Bowl. The problem is that he wasn't playing an NFL team. I was glad when the Chargers traded the #1 instead of drafting Vick, and I wouldn't draft Young. You need a QB that can throw the ball and lead the team, not a glorified runner. Look at the best QBs in the league...they don't run too often. How many times has Vick been hurt? At least a few. TO would be a huge gamble, but it would be interesting to see him sign a specific contract that states it's void if he's ever suspended for "conduct detrimental", but he's too much of a risk. Sign Brees, listen to offers for Rivers, get a safety in here and o-line, o-line, o-line...
Brad (January 6, 2006 4:36 PM)
there's a deffinent need of improvment at secondary. One name "Bernard Pollard" from Purdue. Look who theyve taken from Purdue already Brees and Phillips both are good so its obviously a good program. The O-line can be improved in the second and third round. A reciever can be taken in free agency. And in the late rounds of the draft we get speed players. To help improve the special teams.
ben (January 7, 2006 9:52 AM)
agree with everyone. offensive line first, then a ballhawk to force turnovers, then a coach for the o-line that actually knows what hes doing! mauck didnt do anything this year. didnt improve the line, maybe even set them back a year. anyways, for sure, we need a lineman. its becoming LT and Lo Neal vs. the entire opposing defense.
john (January 11, 2006 11:11 PM)
we should get a WR or CB were weak in thos areas we need a game breaker that has good hands at the wideout position drafting Santonio Holmes, Derrick Hagan who is explosive , Sinorice Moss, Maurice Stovall I know it seems like a long list but these are a couple of guys who are very cualified at WR and out of all the guys I suggest Sanantonio Holmes I think he would be a steal and a great explosive WR at DB bolts should take Cedric Griffin, Michael Huff, Darnell Bing or Jennings a late good pick would be a QB I would suggest DJ Shockley, Brett Basanez, Drew Olson or Reggie McNeal. We should take Dq'well Jackson ILB out of Maryland or maybe Quadtrine Hill out of UM the best FB out there and hes a great runner remember Lorenzo isnt getting younger. And try to get Demeco Ryans or Darryll Tapp. BOLTS 2006 playoffs wohoooooo!
sebastian (January 12, 2006 6:16 PM)
Chargers need a OT and WR with the 1st and 2nd round pick. Holmes, Jennings, would be great! Winston Justice or Antonio Cromartie would be the wild card choice.
