Bolts trade 4th pick for Manumaleuna
The Chargers have acquired tight end Brandon Manumaleuna from the St. Louis Rams in exchange for the Bolts’ fourth-round pick (113th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Due to size and strength, almost like sixth starting offensive lineman for Rams…has surprisingly soft hands ... good ability to adjust and run over people…selected by the Rams in fourth round (128th overall) of 2001 NFL draft.

Not bad, since there are only a handful of TEs left in the Draft. Peele is gone so it's key to backup Gates. Brandon had 2 fumbles last season, 2 more than the previous 4 seasons combined, and he only started 14 games. We'll see.

I simply don't get it. With Gates and Shea, will this guy ever be on the field? Trading a 4th round pick for another probable special teamer doesn't seem so brilliant.

why trade for a tight end when we need help in other areas

You've got to play to your strengths. The Chargers need a strong tight end. If Gates is out then we have a problem. Still, I understand the skepticism. Perhaps he is a better blocker, and the Chargers played their worst last year when they couldn't protect the quarterback/make room for LT to run.

They gotta be thinking good blocking. Blocking for run plays, blocking for special teams...

I thought I heard on ESPN that Donnie Edwards had been traded. Can anyone confirm?

He is going to block for LT and Rivers...he is a big, blocking TE, something we dont really have (Shea/Gates are pass catchers).

I understand wanting depth at each position but there are other area's we need improvement at starting postion far more then a third level guy.

Great move we needed a big wide body TE not another Gates we needed to get some beef in there on short yardage situations. Remember Philly last year with Mcneil and this guy we got some power go Lt go BOLTS

What is going on. Didn't the Chargers sign Shea, don't they have the best tight end in the NFL. This sure seems like a waste for a team that has so many needs.

Great trade - a proven starter, best blocking TE in the league and can block any de. Theres no way he'll be a 3rd level guy behind Shea. The reason for less productivity was the Rams offense. Great job chargers - super bowl here we come!!!!

I guess they are trying to protect Rivers.Otherwise I don't get it

Manu is a better run blocker than either Shea or Gates. Manu will probably start right away in the two back set

I think this trade makes perfect sense. I think these second day rounds are running thin with specialized talent. The front office mentioned a need for a TE for depth and security and I don't think the best TE at the time was left on the board. Forget the draft pick, trade and get a blocking TE with experience and make him the 6th lineman. I also read that Manu has lined up as HB and FB. LT should get adequete blocking next year.
