Surprise pick... Bolts go with QB
Chargers select quarterback Charlie Whitehurst with the 81st pick in Saturday’s draft. Some question taking a QB so early but you can never have enough good quarterbacks, ask the New York Jets.
"Whitehurst is an interesting prospect because he has many of the tools to be a successful quarterback in the NFL and has the lineage (his father played quarterback for the Packers in the late '70s/early '80s). He is a tall quarterback with the smooth release and the arm to make all the throws with zip and accuracy. The trouble is that he does not consistently stride into throws and has a little bit of wind-up in delivery, which makes his throwing motion a little deliberate, which will allow NFL defenders to get good breaks on his passes. Overall, Whitehurst might have the physical talent to be a solid starting quarterback in the NFL if he can become more consistent throwing when under pressure, but he needs to go to a team with a quarterbacks coach who is very good at teaching in order for Whitehurst to become the player he is capable of being. In the end, Whitehurst probably will struggle to be a consistent NFL starter and end up as a top-notch backup who can do a very good job of finishing games and can be solid starting a few games a season as a fill-in."

I feel this is a good pick because I think Rivers has shown us nothing sure hes been put into bad situations but when hes ask to do something he hasnt showed me anything. I think Whitehurst will have a bright future

I think Whitehurst was a good pick. I have had the oppurtunity to watch him play through his college career and he was definitly solid. He had one bad year as a junior. But he recovered last year and learned a brand new offense and was productive. He is very intelligent and will learn this offense fast. Oh yeah and a few of his interceptions this year came off the recievers hand so they were not his fault. Overall I think he will end up being a solid NFL quaterback one day.

I dont like the pick. We could have picked up Whitehurst in a later round. The number 1 rated guard from Georgia is still on the board (Giles)?? I think LT/PR would have appreciated that pick a little more.

I like the depth we have now at QB. If Rivers or Whitehurst can take the next step we have an awesome quarterback for years to come. I also think if something happens to Rivers, Feely can step in and be more productive than he was in Miami just because of the other weapons we have.

I don't agree with the pick at this time. We need players to contribute now! We need linemen to protect Rivers and to open running lanes for LT. We need to give Rivers weapons today and we could of got another QB later like the UCLA QB in the 5th or 6th.

whitehurst was a great pick.i'm in acc country, and the 2 best QB's to come out of here in the last 7-10 years are Rivers and Whitehurst

I went to Clemson with Charlie and he is the real deal. San Diego is in good hands with the top two most prolific passers in ACC history.

I know this is agood pick. If Charlie gets the chance to play he will turn heads. I'm a Miami fan that was hoping he was drafted by us. To me this is the next Dan Marino.Watching this guy in college, believe me he's got all the making's.

I think that you made a very good pick by choosing Charlie as a quarterback. He is very skilled in what he does and is a very hard worker. Im sure that later this season you will not have any regrets on choosing him. I know there are some other teams that probably could've used Charlie more but i think that he'll do great and love to be part of the team.
