Taking Charge

Few QBs will enter 2006 under as much scrutiny as Philip Rivers. But Rivers, who has throw just 30 passes in two seasons, is eager to lead and ready for the challenge, writes ESPN.com’s Len Pasquarelli.

It has been made apparent to Chargers fans over the past two seasons that there has been a light lit at the end of tunnel. A team that has made the acquisitions to maintian a competitive edge in the "varsity" conference of the NFL. The 2005 Season was filled with more than enough heartbreaks versus Dallas, Denver, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, should luck of run a different coarse throughout each of these games, the winner of Super Bowl XL would not even of made the playoffs. But this is now a moot issue, as is New Orleans signing of Drew Brees.

Yes the Bolts are now putting their money to work in number 17,and all San Diego can hope for is to not take another long plunge into the depths of the AFC Western Division.

Over the past two years we have seen steady progress at the quarterback postion in Drew Brees, and with David Rivers in constant grooming, we as Chargers fans knew that this day had to come, perhaps not so soon, but with Drew Brees' injury under questionable playing time in Week 17, it was time to play the Ace.

I believe Rivers will be productive this year. As long as Rivers can read defenses, he should do fine. The only thing that worries me is his unorthadox throwing motion which reminds me of David Carr. Maybe this is makes him more accurate?

Everyone Whants To Focus on the 30 passes That Mr. Rivers has thrown in regular season games. Do not Forget that Philip Sarted all 4 years in College and Was a Star in Big Games ! One of the Things I am Looking Forward To in The 2006 Season is the Repore that Rivers has With Kasim Osgood and Vincent Jackson while practicing on the Scout Team. I think Philip Will Show His Worth This Season . Bless The Boltz!

Rivers is going to be alright....better than alright. He's going to have to shake off some gameday rust, but he has Tomlinson who will be drawing most of the coordinators' attention. And Rivers is the kind of guy who is really going to get mileage out of Gates as he goes through progressions and options. Before this year is out, I think it likely that coordinators will be having to gameplan for Tomlinson AND Rivers. AS for his throwing motion...its way stranger than Carr's but that does not matter because mechanically its not "wasted motion"...he actually has a quicker than standard release with it. And he throws darts....very accurate darts.

chargers have not done well in drafts over the last 10 years...buy veteran players.

The timing for this change of gaurds is perfect. Although I wouldn't say the same of the compensation A.J. obtained in dealing Drew.

Drew had a fabulous showing in the 04/05 season, although was rather inconsistant at times last year. Even though, I am a Breeze fan & it will be fun to follow his carreer with the Saints.

In retrospect, I think Phillip has more of an up side than Drew over the long haul. Giving Phillip the reigns now should speed his development, as well as our young receiving core as they've already built a reporte while sharing time on the practice squad.

Remeber Philip Rivers was picked ahead of the Pit QB. If he can come in a perform similar to that guy we should be fine. Who cares about the limited play time. He has been in the system for 2 plus years, he is not a rookie...the sky should be the limit for this franchise QB.
