Chargers waive Woods

The San Diego Chargers have waived wide receiver Rashaun Woods and claimed wide receiver Gerran Walker off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts.

Walker is a 5-9, 188-pound receiver out of Lehigh University. He had originally joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent following April’s NFL Draft. Woods was acquired by the Chargers in an April trade with the San Francisco 49ers for cornerback Sammy Davis.

As a senior in 2005, Walker earned first-team All-Patriot League honors after leading Lehigh with 38 catches for 608 yards and four touchdowns. He was also the team’s leading kickoff return man with 29 returns for 702 yards (24.2-yard average). As a junior in 2004, Walker was a second-team all-league choice.

Looks like we got nothing for Sammy Davis. Can't win them all.

It's too bad that the guy just can't healthy.

wow!, Woods must have done something wrong in training camp, i cant see AJ just waiving a former first round pick, with barely any in game experience unless they really couldnt play the game.

The trade for Woods was a crap shoot. The 49er's may soon discover that they rolled snake eyes as well. We have a lot of established talent at the receiver spots and Woods was a longshot. San Francisco has so many transparent needs that Davis milght stick. All we've lost is a warm body with a pulse. If Gerran Walker stays around, you can bet it'll be on the practise squad.

Hopefully this results in Ortiz getting more reps and a chance to land a spot on the roster.
