Chargers down Steelers

The Steelers had an extra week's rest coming off their bye week, but it was San Diego that proved to be the more aggressive team in its 23-13 victory over the defending champs. The Steelers got out to an early 10-0 lead before the Chargers answered on Philip Rivers' 9-yard touchdown pass to Malcom Floyd. Pittsburgh (1-3) led 13-7 at the half before San Diego (3-1) finally took control of the game. The defense kept the Steelers offense off the scoreboard the entire second half, while the offense kept putting up scores. Rivers also hooked up with TE Antonio Gates for another score, while kicker Nate Kaeding added three field goals. Rivers finished 24 of 37 for 242 yards in out-dueling his counterpart Ben Roethlisberger. Rivers and Roethlisberger were two of the top three quarterbacks taken in the 2004 draft. Star RB LaDainian Tomlinson was held to just 36 yards on 13 carries.
