Postgame Notes

LaDainian Tomlinson came up big once again Sunday, keying another second-half rally to give the AFC West-leading Chargers (9-2) a 21-14 victory over the rival Oakland Raiders. It was San Diego's fifth straight win. "It seems like it's magical, the way things are happening for us," said Tomlinson. "It's kind of just going right for us." Tomlinson rushed for two touchdowns to give him a league-leading 24 for the season and he threw for another, a 19-yarder to tight end Antonio Gates to tie the game at 14 in the fourth quarter. It came four plays after a celebratory spike by Vincent Jackson following a fourth-down catch set off 10 minutes of confusion. San Diego sealed the win with Drayton Florence's interception deep in Chargers territory with 1:48 left.

Postgame Notes from today's Chargers-Raiders game at Qualcomm Stadium

  • Marty Schottenheimer led the Chargers to an undefeated November for the third year in a row…the Chargers have won 10 straight November games, including four this season…today’s win was the 200th of Schottenheimer’s career.
  • LaDainian Tomlinson scored the Chargers’ first touchdown today on a four-yard run…it was his 20th rushing TD of the season, setting a new team single-season record (19, Chuck Muncie, 1981).
  • Tomlinson’s first touchdown raised his season point total to 138, also setting a new team record for single-season scoring (135, John Carney, 1994).
  • When Tomlinson scored the team’s first touchdown, it was the Chargers 17th consecutive scoring drive that ended with a touchdown, tying the team’s longest streak (1981)…the Chargers haven’t kicked a field goal since their Nov. 5 game against Cleveland...the Chargers scored a total of three touchdowns today without kicking a field goal, extending the team record to 19 straight touchdowns without kicking a field goal.
  • Tomlinson’s touchdown was set up on a 91-yard kickoff return by Antonio Cromartie…it ties the seventh-longest kickoff return in team history and it was the Bolts’ longest since Ronney Jenkins had a 93-yard return against the Raiders in Oakland on Nov. 18, 2001.
  • Tomlinson scored his game-winning second rushing TD of the day on a 10-yard run…on that play, he went over 100 yards rushing for the day, marking his fifth-straight 100 yard game…it’s the longest such stretch of his career…Tomlinson has six 100-yard rushing games this season, including two versus Oakland (131 yards Week 1).
  • Tomlinson has scored 24 touchdowns this season, 21 rushing and three receiving…he’s tied with Priest Holmes (2002) and John Riggins (1983) for the fifth-most touchdowns in a season in NFL history…Shaun Alexander of Seattle set the NFL record (28) in 2005.
  • Tomlinson’s two touchdowns today raised his career total to 104…it is the 15th most in NFL history…the two scores also raised his career rushing TDs total to 93, moving him into eighth place on the league’s all-time list.
  • Tomlinson had a hand in all three touchdowns today, including a game-tying 19-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Gates in the fourth quarter…it’s his second touchdown pass of the season and the sixth of his career…it’s tied for the second-most TD passes by a non-quarterback in NFL history with Keith Byars, Greg Pruitt and Marcus Allen…Walter Payton (8) has the most.
  • Gates is the sixth different receiver to catch a touchdown pass from Tomlinson…the others include Drew Brees, Keenan McCardell, Justin Peelle, Eric Parker and Brandon Manumalenuna.
  • Randall Godfrey had a season-high three tackles for loss today…it’s tied for the most by a Chargers defender in a game this season…Shaun Phillips had three against Pittsburgh Oct. 8 in an NBC Sunday Night Football game…it’s Godfrey’s most tackles for loss in a game with the Chargers since he had three at Denver Sept. 26, 2004…he’s never had more than three tackles for loss in a game with San Diego.
  • Godfrey finished today’s game with a season-high 13 tackles (according to press box statistics)…it’s his most since a 13-tackle game against Pittsburgh on Oct. 10, 2005.
  • The Chargers’ two starting cornerbacks, Quentin Jammer and Drayton Florence had interceptions in the same game for the first time this season…the last time the duo did so, the Chargers knocked off the Indianapolis Colts, 26-17, on Dec. 18, 2005 at the RCA Dome…they are now tied for the team lead with three picks apiece this season.
  • The Chargers were only 2-of-11 today on third down, but Eric Parker was responsible for both third-down conversions, including a key four-yard catch on a third-and-three to the Oakland 12-yard line on the Chargers’ game-winning fourth-quarter drive…his other third-down conversion was a 10-yard catch on a third-and-eight play during the Bolts’ opening drive of the third quarter.
  • The Chargers had five sacks today, giving them a total of 14 in their two games this season against the Raiders…it is the most they’ve had in a season against the Raiders…the previous highs were 11 in 1986 and 10 in 1981.
  • The Chargers have now won seven-consecutive games against Oakland, their longest winning streak in the series.
  • Shaun Phillips had 1.5 sacks today, giving him a team-leading 9.5 for the season.
