Numbers game

I just got an email from Chargers equipment manager Bob Wick letting me know that newly-acquired linebacker Derek Smith will wear number 58. Randall Godfrey was the last Bolt to wear that number.

Also, Wick informed us a couple weeks ago that a player has swapped numbers for the new season.

Last year, a cornerback discarded number 25 prior to his second NFL season and had a monster year. Not that there’s any correlation, but Paul Oliver is hoping that his switch from 25 will work out like Antonio Cromartie’s. Oliver will now wear 27, a number that belonged to Bhawoh Jue when he arrived in San Diego last summer.
