Training Camp Recap: Aug. 9

Posted by Christopher Smith on August 9, 2011 – 7:23 PM

Ryan Mathews practiced Tuesday after missing time with a minor strain. How his body responds likely will dictate whether he plays Thursday against Seattle.

“He looked pretty good today,” Head Coach Norv Turner said. “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”

Marcus McNeill was among a group that did not practice.

“He’s got tenderness in his left knee. We’re just being smart with him,” Turner said. “If we were working through May and June, some of that gets out of the way earlier.”

The Chargers split practice Tuesday, spending half of it preparing for the preseason game and the other half working on themselves like a normal camp session.

SS Bob Sanders lines up RB Ryan Mathews during an inside run.

DE Corey Liuget, squeezing some water on the sideline, was active during Tuesday's practice.

WR Cameron Kenney holds on to a pass despite coverage from CB Marcus Gilchrist.

TE Dennis Morris also squeezes a reception in close quarters.

P Mike Scifres stood on the 40-yard line and practiced spinning punts so they stopped short of the goal line. Here's one of his better efforts (the line in the foreground is the end zone).

RBs coach Ollie Wilson runs through some plays with Mathews near the beginning of Tuesday's practice.

Stay true and keep pounding,
Christopher

Bring the Chargers back to LA. The original LA team. You won’t have problems selling out games out here.

MADFAN give me some of what your smokin on. You have fun cheering for the la jaguars they are more your speed. No players and or staff would like to move from america’s finest city to the real black hole have fun with your shi%%y traffic, your f-uped jaded fan base and try not to get shot on your way to the store. go boltz cant wait for your new palace downtown by petco since ramraider has no idea what is going on with the chargers. The spanos family has STAYED HERE for over 25 years and they dont want to live in hell A either.

Chargerluv619 you are truly a fool if you don’t think the bolts will move to LA. San Diego is Portland with a nice beach they can support one team and they chose that team already. You probably rant about the stadium they never sell out petco. I live down here and love this TOWN but c’mon. The team is going to go where there is a stadium deal in place (which just got voted on 12-0 done deal)and face facts that market is twice the size of SD meaning the spanos will get more $ up there. Enjoy them while you can cause a move to the city of Angels looks pretty real.
