Training Camp Recap: Aug. 16

Just like that, training camp is over at Chargers Park.

Yes, it officially continues another week through Tuesday morning, but Monday will be a day off for the players. The team leaves for Dallas tomorrow afternoon and will practice three more times before Sunday night’s game.

Head Coach Norv Turner cancelled the Wednesday practice. Dallas also will not practice Wednesday.

“We’re traveling tomorrow and we’ll have two very good practices (with the Cowboys) Thursday and Friday,” Turner said.

He planned to consider nixing the Wednesday practice but left it on the schedule to make sure the players went hard this week. After what he deemed “outstanding” practices Saturday, Sunday and Monday, he let the players know they’d have Wednesday free before Tuesday’s session started.

“I thought it would really energize practice and it did,” Turner said. “We had an oustanding practice. We had a physical practice. And we had a high-energy practice. When you go out and do that, I think you get better.”
