Vikings at Chargers: Pregame Photos
Posted by on September 11, 2011 – 12:40 PMHere are some pregame photos from Qualcomm Stadium courtesy of Mike Nowak.

Today's pregame celebration will be more reverent and solemn as the Chargers recognize the victims of 9/11 on its 10-year anniversary and appreciate those who protect us in San Diego and across the world.

A 150-pound steel piece from the World Trade Center South tower, property of the San Diego Fire Museum, sits on the Chargers' sideline near the East end zone.

The 9/11 remembrance logo rests a few yards in front of the steel piece of the Twin Towers staircase.

The defensive backs huddle in the tunnel before facing QB Donovan McNabb, WR Percy Harvin and others in the Vikings' pass offense.

Vikings at Chargers: Inactives
Posted by on September 11, 2011 – 11:44 AMThe following players will not play today. Keep in mind the NFL has moved from 45 to 46 “active” players on game days and eliminated the “emergency quarterback” designation. (In previous seasons, there were eight inactives, one of which could be declared an emergency QB and activated if the other QBs were injured and could not continue.)
Larry English is the biggest name on the inactives list — Patrick Crayton, Vincent Brown and Jonas Mouton all did not practice this week and were expected. Shareece Wright, Jordan Todman and Na’il Diggs are new. English is healthy. He’s inactive because he hasn’t had enough practice time and the Chargers felt it best to allow him to knock off a little more rust before he plays.

49ers at Chargers: Halftime Quotes
Posted by on September 1, 2011 – 8:37 PMHead Coach Norv Turner
What were your impressions of the first half?
I liked getting Ryan going. It was good to see him break the long run. I thought he hit some good runs up in there, too. Obviously you can’t win in this league if you turn the ball over. I’m disappointed that we had the two turnovers.
Did you like the way your defense responded with two interceptions after San Francisco put together a long touchdown drive to open the game?
We created some turnovers. The 49ers have some talented skill guys. I thought they put together a good drive. They executed awfully well.
RB Ryan Mathews
What are your thoughts on the 56-yard touchdown run?
My line did a good job of blocking. My receiver and everything blocking upfield. I got caught last week and I didn’t want to get caught again. I just tried to split them and focus on running for a touchdown. My line did a real good job opening a hole. All the credit goes to them. They do the hard stuff and I do the easy stuff, running the ball.

49ers at Chargers: Pregame Photos
Posted by on September 1, 2011 – 6:37 PMSome pregame photos from Qualcomm Stadium, courtesy of Mike Nowak:

DT Ogemdi Nwagbuo meets his half brother, 49ers RB Xavier Omon, for the first time. The two discovered their family tie recently.

Head Coach Norv Turner and WR Bryan Walters talk in the locker room before the preseason finale. Walters has scored a touchdown in two of the three games so far.

WR Richard Goodman, who will start alongside Walters, makes a one-handed catch on the field during warmups.

QB Scott Tolzien makes a warmup throw Thursday. He'll likely have a last shot to impress the coaching staff after completing 9-of-17 passes this preseason.

LS Mike Windt, virtually assured a spot on the team as the only player on the roster at his position, warms up for San Francisco.

QB Philip Rivers speaks with 49ers linebackers coach Jim Leavitt. Rivers' offensive coordinator at N.C. State, Mike Canales, became offensive coordinator at South Florida under Leavitt.
