Draft Meetings Begin
Posted by on April 10, 2012 – 11:02 AMThe Chargers started the lengthy final process of draft preparation Tuesday. San Diego’s entire player personnel department, along with Head Coach Norv Turner, began pre-draft meetings at Chargers Park.
The group goes through each player in what’s called “draft readings,” where one or more of those in the room share their notes and analysis out loud for one player at a time. They discuss each player’s personality, character, physical attributes and overall skill set. The team began with offensive linemen Tuesday, so Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line coach Hal Hunter and Offensive Line coach Mike Sullivan both were present as well.
General Manager A.J. Smith sits at the head of the table opposite Player Personnel Director Jimmy Raye. Turner sits to Smith’s right and Director of College Scouting John Spanos sits to Raye’s left. The rest of the player personnel department and the assistant coaches sit in between at the long draft room table, or at several small satellite tables a few feet away.

Head Coach Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith listen as a scout shares his notes on an offensive lineman from the Midwest.

Here is Smith's view from the head of the table as the scouts reconvene after a short break Tuesday morning.

Director of Pro Scouting Dennis Abraham, right, sits at one of the smaller tables with Assistant Director of Pro Scouting Bryan Cox.
Stay true and keep pounding,
Christopher

The chargers need to choose someone at SS and Harrison Smith would make a nice tandem with Weddle. In the first round i see them taking DeCastro IF hes available but i doubt it so next best is Cordy Glenn or Courtney Upshaw. Also Cyrus Gray should be seriously looked at because he is very underrated and has alot of potential.Go Bolts!!!

Defense!!! Defense!!! Defense!!! Chargers need to move up to the #12 or #13 spot and grab Mark Barron. Then use the next pick for a pass rusher (Nick Perry or Mercilus)

Guys look at the 4-3 defensive ends in this draft at your peril, Perry, Upshaw, Mercilus, Ingram. You want somebody who can bring pressure like Vinny Curry, Ronnell, Lewis, Andre Branch, Zach Brown or Dont’a Hightower, maybe if you got the guts Irvin. Mercilus or Upshaw can replace Castillo, leave the other guys on the board they are not OLB in 3-4. Go get Harrison or Barron in first. pick up extra second round pick. Also ta’amun should be a priority.

1. No one can ever predict what AJ is going to do so guessing is pointless.
2. He wont pick a player that anyone has listed as a possibility.
I just hope he gets the best player available for a position we need, ie. S only if Barron is available (not gonna happen), pass rusher (Upshaw, Mericlus or Perry in that order, Perry might be a reach at 18) or Decastro.
But like I said, i give 100:1 odds that he picks none of those players, available or not.
GO CHARGERS! AJ DONT BLOW IT, YOUR JOB IS ON THE LINE!!!

The book of yotai says Chargers must upgrade the pass rush or crash and burn

The #1 pick will not be a safety, as Bigby is an upgrade and Stuckey remains intriguing. Also, this is a horrible draft for the position.
OLB with pass rush potential is the obvious number 1, a transition that Perry may make with tremendous upside.
OL is the second obvious first round pick, any number of OL worthy of the 18th pick should still be there.

AJ knows he has got to make all the right moves this year or he will be selling corn dogs in the parking lot!… Draft wisely, my friend!

Luis Castillo was drafted the 1st Round. Cory Liguit is not the only one in the past 26 years… you didn’t even write Luis’ name in the article about Draft Histroy: DE.

I’m so sick and tired watching AJ Smith pass on good players and draft some clown nobody has ever heard of. Stop it! Take any of those Saban coached Alabama players. Barron, Upshaw, Hightower or Kirkpatrick, regardless of position.. Am I the only person who see’s this?
of watching our defense get shredded! Defense, Defense, Defense…and not some no-name guy from Ilinois! AJ MUST BE FIRED! He is a CLOWN!
