Whitehurst to Start vs. Vikings

Charlie Whitehurst

Charlie Whitehurst will start in Minnesota.

Here at the team hotel, head coach Norv Turner has just alerted Chargers.com that Charlie Whitehurst will start Friday night’s game at the Minnesota Vikings, giving Philip Rivers the day off.

“Charlie is going to start, and I’m anxious to watch him in a starting role,” said Turner. “It’s something we may be in the position during the regular season that we have to do that, and it’s a good experience for him.”

This isn’t the first time Turner has decided to rest Rivers in favor of another quarterback in the preseason.  A few years back, he did the very same thing when he wanted to get a better look at Billy Volek.

One more note – Rivers won’t be the only healthy player who will sit out Friday’s game as Turner said he plans to rest Antonio Gates as well.

Stay tuned for more here in Minneapolis.

Start move by Norv considering the injuries to the o-line and turf in MN.

I’m thinking that Turner thinks Rivers would get crushed by the vikes’ DE’s. Smart move, Norv….

I understand that Norv does not want anyone else to get hurt but I really want to win this game and I like to see Phillip Rivers in action.
    I am confused.

I dont want to hear there are too many new pieces for Phillip and thats why he is doing poorly in reg season. He needs reps with the new pieces. Hasn’t looked very sharp thus far this preaseason.
