Turner Addresses NFL Investigation into “Sticky” Substance

Posted by Ricky Henne on October 22, 2012 – 2:20 PM

Head coach Norv Turner opened up his press conference this afternoon by addressing the league’s investigation into whether or not the Chargers were using an illegal “sticky” substance during its game against the Denver Broncos last Monday night.

Here is what he had to say:

“I might as well get to it right off the bat so you don’t have to bother with the questions.  Nobody from the San Diego Chargers used stickum in the game on Monday night against the Denver Broncos.  Nobody in this organization has used stickum in any game.  The question that has been asked by the league involves a towel that has been used by this organization for over 10 years.  It’s been used by a lot of teams in this league.  The towel is used to dry the balls, dry the gloves the players wear and their arms. The league is looking into the towel.  That’s about where we’re at.”

I’d rather let the investigation verify what you say Norv because you can only say so much until it loses value and for me, that value was lost a long time ago.

It is time for Norv to turn in the towel anyway.

DUDE THATS FUNNY! i think it is resin from the pipe they were smoking at half time. what else can explain that loss?

Im very disappointed in the Chargers. Why would you use stickum. Just play the game and dont be stupid.

you people are what I like to call bandwagoners you will be on the pole again we are in the playoffs!

When the league finds out that it wasn’t anything illegal, and the San Diego Chargers name has been tarnished and everyone is falsely calling the Chargers cheaters, someone should sue the NFL for a new stadium. Keep the Chargers in SD

Can we suspend Norv indefinitely pending investigation into towel gate?

the sad thing is that the team is still losing.

They lost 3 games, relax. Last I checked, that’s pretty much the story around the league

  14. By Carey on Oct 22, 2012 | Reply

Just shows you he has no control of his team…

I will say one thing, IF there was stickum, and he came out and said this, it would be career suicide. If he kinda weaseled out of the statement. it would be a different story. But to come out and say NO ONE used it, and was lying, the media would murder him,

I wasn’t thrilled with the choice of Turner for head coach anyway, although he had some decent seasons, they were nothing like the 14-2 season under Marty’swatch

I say convict without proof (which we do anyway), get rid of AJ and NORV (should have been done a long time ago) and bring in Holmgren as GM and hire Bill Cowher as head coach………nough said!

The last time Turner got caught with a sticky towel, he was a teenager…..LOL!

What do you wanna bet the Charger Girls use stickum to keep their uniforms in place.

  21. By Kay Dunnion on Oct 23, 2012 | Reply

How long will it take the NFL to analyze the darned towel? It is not as if we are dealing with a complex crime scene here. It either is stickum or it’s not.

  22. By Paul Sanchez on Oct 23, 2012 | Reply

So if this turns out to be stickum will you finally hold Norv and AJ accountable? Enough is enough and we have had too much already. Did you see what the Panthers did yesterday? They fired their GM. Dean, you should have fired AJ at the end of last season. How do you justify keeping a man that fires a 14-2 coach for not winning a playoff game. You haven’t even made it to the playoff’s the last two years and here comes number three.

  23. By Scott Maring on Oct 23, 2012 | Reply

Hey Paul Sanchez, that 14-2 season was the result of an easy schedule not a good coach. Not to many years ago the Chargers started 0-4 and still won the division. Maybe you and those like you, have jumped off the bandwagon a few weeks, 8-10, to soon. The rest of us will stay for the season.

Come On Man.. Seriously. You gotta be kidding me. Chargers are one of the teams that have HEART and PASSION for this sport. They love the game. Chargers have too much love and respect for the game, and you come up with a sticky towel, man they must be a huge threat to come up with an accusation like that,, Really man stop and think about it…….

I can’t shake the feeling that somewhere Peyton, Archie, and a certain game official are looking at each other and giggling into the palms of their hands.

  26. By Isaias on Oct 23, 2012 | Reply

Get the investigation going already theres nothing to investigate, all this cause of a towel, c’mon man, Chargers are a real good team they just have a bad gm and bad coach. Go Chargers!

  27. By Ron U. Bet' cha on Oct 23, 2012 | Reply

Cowher sucks too. The coach that replaced him got the Steelers to the SuperBowl 3 time & won 2. Cowher knows it is better to be thought a looser then to coach & remove all ??? Holmgrem, he did a real GOOD job with the Browns. They had their shot @ Jim Harbough & passed. Suck it up San Diego, like you allways do.

sitting here in my charger room in texas, and listening to all this towel crap sounds like what is (IS) i.e. bill clinton. a.j. and norv. do need to go, they just arn’t aggresive enough to be a charger. they need to scrap the whole thing, its not like we’re wining alot of play off games and or super bowls everyone here in dallas always ask where’s your super bowl rings. i can never win a arguement even though dallas blows ass and haven’t won shit in 6 years, but they do have 5 rings and the chargers have a shitty stadium, shitty coach and a shitty upper management.the chargers are a kickass team but we have a bunch of retards running the show. GO CHARGERS GO WIN YOUR FANS A RING AND SHUT ALL THOUGH’S MUTHER F’ERS UP. NO RING NO RESPECT…….
