Digging Deeper into Chargers Fandom

Posted by Jordan Beane on January 30, 2013 – 10:57 AM

Wherever you live as a Chargers fan, whether in southern California, New York, the Federated States of Micronesia, you don’t live completely in a Bolts fandom bubble. Chances are you have a high school buddy that’s a Redskins fan, an uncle that loves the Raiders or a co-worker that lives and dies with the Dolphins. So then what team would your non-Charger fan friends most likely root for?

Yesterday we brought you Facebook’s county by county map of NFL fandom based on where Facebook users who have “liked” a team reside. That wasn’t the only information to come out of Facebook’s Data Science team’s data digging. They also created the chart above, showing which team your friends are most likely to root for if it’s not your team.

Thus, according to Facebook’s data, Chargers fan is most likely to be friends with a fan of the Cowboys on the worldwide social network, followed by the Raiders, Steelers, Niners and Patriots. Conversely the Chargers are the third most likely team that friends of Raiders and Niners fans root for.

So take solace in the fact that for every Raiders fan from Le Mesa that fills up your timeline with pictures of Carson Palmer, there are Chargers fans in Walnut Creek returning the favor.
