On February 3rd people from coast to coast will be celebrating an unofficial national holiday (and no I don’t mean Setsuban, Japan’s annual Bean-Throwing Festival) as Super Bowl 47 kicks off in New Orleans. For many of us that means gathering with friends in front of the largest flat screen television available, gorging on mountainous plates of food and making sure that all kitchen runs happen during the game so that no commercials are missed.
Today, during Tom Telesco’s live chat on Chargers.com, Adam B. asked the new GM how he’ll be spending Super Bowl Sunday.
I am going to be watching the Super Bowl on TV just like many of you. I know both offensive coordinators very well (Greg Roman, SF and Jim Caldwell, BLT). I am hoping for a lot of points scored but feel bad that one of those 2 is going home unhappy. I have been on both ends of winning and losing a Super Bowl, and it is the high of highs and low of lows.
Telesco’s ties run deep with both Caldwell and Roman. Jim Caldwell came to Indianapolis with Tony Dungy in 2002 and became the team’s head coach in 2009, all while Telesco was working in the Colts front office. The Chargers GM’s roots run even deeper with Greg Roman. The two played together at John Carroll University (Telesco was a wide receiver, Roman a defensive lineman at the DIII school) in the early 90’s and were together again with the Carolina Panthers from 1995 to 1997.
As a member of the Colts front office during their Super Bowl win in 2006 and loss in 2009, Telesco certainly knows what both men will feel like, regardless of Sunday’s outcome.
