Kendall Reyes Blog: Thanks for a Great Season

Posted by Kendall Reyes on December 27, 2012 – 3:59 PM

Kendall Reyes, Greg McElroySo the last game of the year is coming up.  I know myself and the team, we definitely want to go out on fire.  We are going to give it everything we’ve got and play our hearts out.  So I’m excited about that.

Last week was obviously a big one for me.  I mean, getting 3.5 sacks is an amazing feeling, and it was great to get it in a win.  I felt like I was playing my game, and as a defense we played with tons of effort.  It showed up in the game.  A lot of my sacks I have to give credit to the guys in the back end for making the quarterback hold onto the ball. They let me do my work up front.  And to be a part of 11 sacks, that’s something I’ve never been around, so it was a great feeling.

But that game is behind me and my focus is on Sunday against the Raiders.  Whatever happens after that happens, but I look forward to coming back even better next year.

This will be my last blog entry for the year.  I want to personally thank each and every one of you for following along and tuning in.  Thanks for supporting our program all year.  Even though it’s been disappointing, it’s been a great season in terms of having your support.

Reyes Blog: Shout-Out to My Teammates

Posted by Kendall Reyes on December 7, 2012 – 11:13 AM

Kendall ReyesThere’s four games left in the season, and while I’m upset by our record, I’m feeling pretty good on a personal level.  I feel healthy and that I’ve been making strides in my play.  It feels good to just know that I’m growing as a player.  Hopefully I continue to grow because I’m learning more with each game.

For the team, I feel like we are very prepared for Pittsburgh this week.  We’re playing in a hostile environment, and they’ve got a lot of great players.  They are really known for their defense, so it will be a great experience playing there.

I need to give a shout out to my teammates on the defensive line, especially Vaughn Martin who is here next to me right now.  He’s always looking out for me and I’m learning a lot from him.  I look forward to riding out with him for a bunch more years.

Well that’s about it for today. I have to go get ready for one last practice before we head to Pittsburgh.

Till next time,

Reyes Blog: Thanksgiving and Sacks

Posted by Kendall Reyes on November 23, 2012 – 10:05 AM

First off, I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving.

For the holiday, I had a bunch of people over my apartment and everyone brought over a dish.  I made my mom’s macaroni casserole.  I never made it before so I was on the phone with her for like hours trying to figure it out, but it came out well.  We all had a good time.

Even though we lost on Sunday and I’m disappointed about that, it felt great to get the first sacks of my career.  I’ve been working hard and didn’t know when it was going to happen and that was frustrating, but I had the opportunity on those plays to take advantage and they worked out for me.  It was pretty cool to get the first ones against someone like Peyton Manning too. It really didn’t matter who it was against, but to do it against a player like that, one of the best quarterbacks ever, it was pretty cool.

Well that’s about it.  Hopefully we can turn it around for you guys starting on Sunday against Baltimore.  We’re definitely not where we want to be, but we understand the task we have at hand.  It’s one game at a time and we’re preparing to get a victory this Sunday against the Ravens.

Till next time,

Back on Track

Posted by Kendall Reyes on November 9, 2012 – 11:25 AM

First off, let me say OBAMA!

I watched the results come in all night on Tuesday.  At first Romney was winning so I was getting nervous because I’m an Obama guy, so I was real excited when he pulled through.  He’s a great leader and I think he’ll do more great things for this country.

But enough about politics. It felt good to get back in the winning column last week. I feel like we are back on track.  It was huge and we really needed it.  We’re still fighting because we have a lot to prove this season, so it was another step in the right direction. Now we’re chomping at the bit to play another game and we’re ready for Tampa Bay this weekend.

Winning also made having those days off over the weekend that much better.  I had some buddies come into town and we went down to La Jolla and the coves. So it was a real relaxing weekend.

I’m gonna end this entry with a couple of fan questions I’ve been meaning to get to.

The first asked if as a rookie, is this what I expected to feel like physically at this point in the season.  The answer is yes, because when we go to the rookie symposium and all the things the NFL holds for us, this is what everyone lets us know that it’s going to be like.  You have to go through it and experience it yourself to really know what it will be like, but they prepared me well for it.

The second one was how I adjust to having less snaps in the pros than I did in college.  To me, it’s fine. I’m a rookie.  Everything is going to come.  I’ve still got a lot to learn about this game, so I’m just trying to learn everything as it comes and get better.

Well that’s about it. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.

Now I’m off to get this W!

Till next time,

Reyes Blog: That Was a Tough One

Posted by Kendall Reyes on October 30, 2012 – 2:29 PM

Well that was a tough one we dropped Sunday in Cleveland.  But we’ll use this to our advantage.  We’ve got a chip on our shoulder.  We know we’re a good team and what we can do.

The conditions were pretty bad out there, but that’s no excuse. It’s part of the game.  Football is one of the only sports that are played in every type of weather.  It’s something I’ve been a part of for a long time, having grown up in New Hampshire and played at UConn.  It was nothing new to me, but it did make me appreciate the weather we have here in San Diego even more!

It’s pretty tough having to come right back and play on Thursday night.  But again, that’s part of the game.  Our trainers are doing a good job taking care of us and letting us get our bodies back so we can play this game on Thursday.  We’re spending extra time in the cold tub and doing a little bit more stretching.  It’s the little things like that that really will help us get right.

Now the focus needs to be on Kansas City. I can’t wait to come home in front of our fans.  I want to see you guys out there really bringing it.  The more into the game you guys get the better we play.  It’s a big game, and it’s always good to have a loud house in front of a division rival.  So we really need you.

Alright, that about does it.  I want to answer some fan questions next week, so leave me some in the comments below.

Till next time,

Back and Ready for the Browns!

Posted by Kendall Reyes on October 25, 2012 – 3:21 PM

What’s up everyone?  Kendall here with my latest blog entry like I promised before the bye.

I had a good time with the days off we had.  Was good to get refreshed and refocused for the rest of the season. I relaxed for the first day and didn’t really do much.  I woke up the next morning and got a good workout in.  Then I had a few friends come visit for the weekend so we kinda hung out and I showed off this great city.  They loved San Diego.  We went to Mission Beach for the day, and then went to a bunch of haunted houses, so that was a lot of fun. We went to one downtown and another at Balboa Park.

But now it feels real good to be back. We’re all focused and determined to come away from Cleveland with a win.  We’re hungry and ready to play.

It’s a little bit weird because we play on Sunday then come right back and have another one on Thursday.  That’s two games in a five day span.  I’ve never done anything like that and I don’t think a lot of us have.  But it will be exciting.

Well it’s time to head to another meeting.  I’ll catch you all next week between games.

Till next time,

We’re Gonna Regroup

Posted by Kendall Reyes on October 18, 2012 – 8:50 AM

Hey guys, Kendall here.

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a bit but I had some technical difficulties. I promise to update this blog each week from here on out.

I had to stop in here to give a quick update before I head out for the bye the next couple days to let you know that the team is regrouping after Monday’s loss.  It was a tough one.  But we’re going to bounce back.  We’ve got a great team.  We’ve all got a big chip on our shoulders and we’re just going to relax for a little bit and come back out stronger than ever.

I’ll be back early next week to let you in on what I did after the bye.  Here’s a hint – it involves lots of rest and relaxation.

Till next time,

We’re 2-0 and it feels amazing!  We’ve been playing pretty well and the team’s has come a long way, so we want to keep stacking these wins up.  Wins are hard to get in this league, so right now our focus is on the Falcons. We’ve got a big test this week with

Atlanta so we have to be real sharp, especially on defense.  But it feels real good to get the two wins under our belt.  After the game I like to relax by hanging out with the family and friends who came to see me play.  It’s a great way to wind down and relax the mind.

I’m a pretty hard critic when it comes to my own game, but I think I’ve done alright to start the season.  I know I have a lot to work on, but I feel like I’m taking steps in the right direction.  If I continue to work and continue to get better, then everything should work out.

Monday after the game we came in here and had our meetings to get ready for Week 3.  I had some soft tissue work done to help me feel fresh. This week I’m really focusing on being aggressive and attacking the Falcons offense. I want to play within myself and do what I have to do, and as long as we as a team do what we have to, I think we’ll be alright.

Yesterday, some of us headed down to Payless for a community event to help kids get shoes. That was really cool and I appreciated having the chance to help out in the community. These kids are just so excited to see us, and sometimes we don’t realize how big of an impact we have on kids.  So to spend a couple hours of our day with them, it means a lot to them and a lot to us as well.

I want to give a shout-out to my UConn Huskies.  We’re 2-1 on the year and playing real good ball. The one loss was a real close one to NC State – which of course is Philip Rivers’ team! But he was real cool and classy about it and didn’t rub it in.  That’s actually one of the cooler things about being in the NFL is that every week, it seems that your alma mater is playing against someone else’s.  So that’s a lot of fun.

Before I sign off I want to think everyone who came out to the game on Sunday.  It was great to have your support, and I can’t wait to see how loud the Q gets this week.

Till next time,

Let’s Get it Started!

Posted by Kendall Reyes on September 6, 2012 – 9:11 AM

What’s new Chargers Nation?

I’m sitting here extremely excited for my first NFL game Monday night. It’s been a long time coming, and now it’s around the corner, so it’s really exciting. It’s hard to believe it’s finally here, but this is what we’ve all been waiting for and we’re ready.  And also just knowing the big rivalry between the Raiders and the Chargers, it’s going to be a real fun and exciting game.  I’m ready to go. To play football in the NFL is a dream come true.

Thanks to everyone who have been leaving fan questions for me or who have come up to me on the street.  Sorry I can’t get to all of them, but here are my answers to some of the more popular ones.

Why do you wear number 91?

I wear it because that’s the number that was given to me when I joined the Chargers organization.  But I absolutely love it.

What’s your favorite bonding experience so far?

Just when I first got here, a couple of the guys on the D-line got together and had dinner.  It gave me a chance to really get to know everyone and feel comfortable.  We’ve been going out a lot as a unit so I really enjoy that.

What’s the biggest difference between UConn and the Chargers?

The biggest difference has to be that I’m no longer in school and don’t have to go to classes!  But UConn was a great school, and the Chargers are a great organization, so they are similar in that regard.  But this is the next level so you have to be professional in everything you do.

Which veterans have taken you under their wing?

Man, honestly, just about everyone on the D-line has supported me a whole lot. We all treat each other pretty fairly and respect each other, so it’s like a brotherhood.  But if I have to pick one person, I have to say Antonio Garay has been looking out for me a whole lot so I appreciate it.

Well that’s it for this week.  If you have any more questions just leave them here and I’ll try to get to them next time.  I’ll talk to you guys next week, hopefully after a win!

A Couple of Firsts

Posted by Kendall Reyes on August 29, 2012 – 8:53 AM

What’s up Chargers Nation? Hope everyone is doing well.

I’m writing this a couple days after getting back from my first road trip in the NFL, which was great.   It was a lot of fun.  It was kind of a long flight, so that wasn’t cool, but it was good to be on the big plane with the whole team. We all had our own individual screen with movies and satellite TV on it, so I spent most of the time flipping through the channels.  I have a hard time sleeping on planes.  I tried to go to sleep, it was worth a shot, but it didn’t really work out so I just watched a couple of shows until we landed.

When we touched down in Minnesota, the D-Line all went to dinner together across the street.  I think the restaurant was called Seven.  We all got really good steak and some sushi. We relaxed, told jokes – it was a good bonding experience.

My other first came when we got back on Monday and the team had to cut some guys.  That was a really rough experience for me. It was a weird feeling because a lot of the guys who were let go were some of the guys I spent most of my time with.  Being a rookie and spending time together, it was a very weird feeling to see them go…..something I’ve never been around before, so it was a unique experience.

Well that’s all for now. I’ll try to hit you up with another blog entry before we kick off the season against the Raiders.  And I’ll be sure to get to all the great fan questions you guys have been leaving for me, so be sure to ask if you’ve got any more.

Till next time,
