Gilchrist Blog: How I Get Ready for Game Day

The following was submitted by Chargers cornerback Marcus Gilchrist.

We’re all upset about what our record is, but for me on a personal level, this year has been a good one for me.  I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I need to do to get even better.  I’m focused in on each and every game and am using them to learn what I need to do to be a better player.

That starts with preparations the entire week heading into a game.  The most important part is proper film study.  Then I try to apply that film study to practice and then from practice to the games. I spend a lot of time at the facility studying both the defense and special teams. We will get together as DBs before practice and then afterwards also, spending extra time to study. So a lot of work goes into getting ready for Sunday.

I love being a San Diego Charger.  I love my teammates.  We have a good chemistry between the old guys and the young guys.  A bunch have taken me under their wing.  I have a great deal of respect for the veterans on our team.  I listen to what they have to say and try to apply it whenever I can.  You have to respect guys who have been in this league as long as they have.  That goes for guys on offense too, like Randy McMichael.

Well that does it for me.  I have to get back to practice.  Thank you for sticking with us.  We’re playing hard and putting everything we have into the games, and we’ll continue to do so.
